Corn, Milling, Nothstine Dent
Corn, Milling, Nothstine Dent
Oh, boy, this dent corn has good flavour. Our favourite for cornbread and muffins, but it's versatile in the kitchen. We like the tortillas it produces, too. This is an heirloom from Michigan that Jordan from Unearthed grew on a tip from a great book about corn called Beautiful Corn by Anthony Boutard. Good book!
A short-season corn that doesn't yield as well as others, but that flavour tho!
8” ears on 7-8’ plants.
100 Days to Maturity.
Also, can we make a quick case for choosing milling corn over sweet corn for your garden (don't grow more than one variety in your garden...corn varieties cross with each other readily, and when that happens, you won't get what you're hoping for). In late summer and early fall, sweet corn abounds. It's so easy and cheap to procure! So instead, grow your own milling corn. One ear will give you enough flour for a batch of cornbread, and you'll be amazed at the flavour.
